Classic 102'12 used this activity during the session on Peer Support. - 37 pieces of paper each with a student’s name printed on it, will be pinned on the board.
- Students will be given post-its. - Students are to write encouraging notes to their fellow classmates (anyone they wish to write to), and paste the post-its on that respective person’s piece of paper. Classic 102'12 conducted this activity during the session on Peer Support. PSLs will split the class into groups and give each a scenario to the class. They will be given a few minutes to discuss about what actions they would take and how they would peer support their friends who are in these situations.
After the groups are done discussing, they will take turns to present their ideas to the whole group. J/PSL to provide possible solutions if students are unable to come up with suitable ones.
Do come up with your own scenarios if possible, especially ones that your class can relate to. Classic 101'12 screened this videos during the session on Peer Support. This activity allowed Y1s to learn the meaning of peer support and still allow them to relax and be entertained by the cute videos. This is a Pingu movie which shows the friendship between Pingu and his friends and helping a friend when in need. This is a clip from Wizards of Waverly Place: Wizards vs Angels which shows different kinds of peer support, for example keeping a friend away from bad influences.
At the end of the screening session, PSLs can ask the year 1s to sum up what the clip was about and link it to peer support. A soft toy will be thrown around randomly and the person who catches the soft toy will be the only one to speak at that point of time. (Pingu shows how friends treasure, care for, and support each other. Wizards of the Waverly Place shows a different kind of peer support where friends keep each other from bad influences.) 107'12 used this activity in their last session to remind the class to continue Peer Supporting one another. As each person takes turn to speak, a ball of yarn will be passed around.
-The end result would be a spider web. -When the “web” is completed, PSLs will ask one of the Year 1s to pluck a section of the web. -PSLs to ask Year 1s if they can feel the vibrations. Most people should feel the vibrations. -This example illustrates how everyone is interconnected and our actions can positively or negatively affect many other people. Classic 103'12 and 107'12 used this activity during the first session and Peer Support session respectively. The year 1s found this activity quite entertaining and most of them had fun. It encourages trust and unity among them as they learn how to rely and support one another in this activity. Sec 1s will be asked to go to the field or the empty space beside the J block staircases and asked to form a circle. In that circle, the Sec 1s will have to figure a way to have everyone sitting on each others lap as shown in the picture above.
Tips:
104'12 Classic used this activity for Peer Support. The activity may seem simple but the hoop will really go up!!
104'12 Classic recommend this as a good activity to start the session on Peer Support - PSLs will get the year 1s to form two circles, one inner circle and one outer circle. - Year 1s in the outer circle will link arms and PSLs will try to push through the outer circle to tag the year 1s in the inner circle. (safety first though) - Once someone in the inner circle is tagged, she is out of the game. A story can be used to make the activity more interesting, such as the year 1s in the inside circle are princesses and the Year 1s outside are warriors protecting the princesses. The PSLs are dragons trying to snatch (tap) the Princesses Used by 110'12 and 111'12 Classic during their session on Peer Support. Instructions
Used by 104'12 and 111'12 Classic during their session on Peer Support. Used by 113'12 Classic during the session on Leadership. What messages/lessons can you draw from the video?
